Rick Smith Chief Executive Officer
Since 1989, Rick Smith has been a key player at Smitty’s. He started out in sales and management, and in 1997, was elected president and CEO. His duties are to ensure the continued growth and success of the company under the direction of the Board of Directors.
Before Smitty’s, Rick was owner of Shrewsbury Hardware in Shrewsbury , PA. He also worked as supervisor in inventory control at AT&T Company in Baltimore , MD and worked as warehouse supervisor at Western Electric Company in Arlington , VA.
Jeff Smith President
Jeff Smith has been with the company for 30 years and, in true entrepreneurial fashion, is now President of WindowSmith, and VP Commercial Sales Division. In his current dual role, Jeff oversees the WindowSmith division and commercial sales divisions, helping to secure new business opportunities for all sales divisions and helping to negotiate with vendors on determining what product lines to carry to match customers’ needs.
Don Belt Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice President
Don Belt has 30 years of experience in the hardware/lumber, building material, industrial MRO and consumer products industries, experience which has led him to his current role of executive vice president & chief operating officer. Don’s extensive background in product procurement, technology, and corporate leadership exemplifies his deep commitment to business partners, customers and staff. A compassionate leader, he extends his authority to seize opportunities and competitive advantages for customers as well as career development for his staff.
During his career, Don has proven repeatedly that he can build new businesses, as evidenced by his having created four $100 million businesses in the industrial wholesaling world. Don’s success story began in 1974 at General Electric Company as a rookie in the video division. Don rapidly advanced to regional merchandising manager, and his region’s profits soured in response to his realignment of the product mix. His expertise and responsibility increased at Servistar, a $2 billion cooperative wholesaler. As senior vice president, he grew sales through strategic planning and acquisitions. His dedication as officer and senior vice president at TruServ Corporation brings tremendous value to Smitty’s procurement services.
His ability to plan and execute e-Business strategies and develop an industrial supply chain will prove invaluable to the success of Smitty’s Building Supply. No stranger to hard work, Don is involved in all aspects of the business. His vision is to leverage the expertise of his management team to establish proven sales and profit growth record for Smitty’s. He earned an MBA at Ohio State University and a Bachelors degree in Economics at Washington & Jefferson College in Pennsylvania .
Gary Davis Chief Financial Officer
Gary Davis has served as chief financial officer of Smitty’s for the past three years. In his role, he is responsible for the supervision and coordination of:
- General accounting and financial reporting
- Special reports and/or analysis, as required
- Cash management (cash flow) and forecasting
- Support the preparation of financial and cost center budgets
- Personnel administration
- Company and employee insurance; policy negotiations as necessary and directed
- External reporting requirements
- Regular review of Credit procedures and Accounts Receivable administration
- Banking Relationships
- Financial institute interface/liaison
- Line of Credit requirements, analysis and recommendations
- Benefit packages and human resource functions
Prior to joining Smitty’s executive team, he was controller for The Color Wheel, Inc. and was chief financial officer at Etensity, Inc. He attended the American University in 1985 where he earned a BS-BA. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1988 and a Certified Financial Planner in 1993
Michele McTighe Director, Information Technology
Since December of 2000, Michele McTighe has worked at Smitty’s as Director, Information Technology. In this role, she manages the information technology infrastructure and all its divisions. Michele’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Defining and implementing IT strategy including application development
- Disaster planning
- New premises provisioning
- Develop and maintain annual IT budget
- Ensure adequate IT staffing
- Establish and maintain IT 3 rd party vendor and outsourcing relationships
- All network/server administration and helpdesk user support functions
- Define, source and implement custom and/or third party software
- Maintain telecommunications infrastructure, land and mobile.
Prior to Smitty’s Michele spent 17 years at Activant as senior field engineer and platform specialist. She obtained an Associates degree in electrical engineering from Tampa , Florida and has multiple certificates in Microsoft products; is Dell-certified; and is a system platform specialist in the automotive and hardware industries.
